The Park Estate is one of the most remarkable residential estates in the UK and home to some magnificent Victorian architecture. It boasts one of the largest gas street lighting systems in Europe which makes the Estate particularly atmospheric at night. The skyline is dominated by Nottingham Castle and the Estate once held the Castle Deer Park and Fishponds.
Once the heart of the world's lace industry, The Lace Market is full of impressive examples of 19th century architecture and thus is a protected heritage area. The Lace Market has undergone a renaissance in recent years. Nearly all of the old warehouses that were once run down are now either luxury apartments, hotels, photographic studios or college buildings. The Lace Market adjoins the "Hockley Village" area of the city, and between them they now accommodate many fashionable bars, restaurants and shops.
Sherwood Forest Country Park contains some of the oldest trees in Europe, veteran oaks five centuries old and the world-famous Major Oak, still producing acorns after standing at the heart of Sherwood Forest for an amazing 800 years! Take a walk along one of the fun family nature trails, or just admire the weird and wonderful shapes of the ancient oak trees, twisted by age and weathered into living sculptures. Of course, this is the legendary home of Robin Hood - and the site of one of the county's most popular free festivals, the annual summer Robin Hood Festival. More information
